One Billion Parts… and Counting

A Nidec Press & Automation high speed Kyori press has proven to be a workhorse for Marion Manufacturing.

The Kyori ANEX 30II was installed in 2017 to produce small copper parts for coaxial cable connectors. Running a five-out die at an average of 500 strokes per minute, the press surpassed one billion parts earlier this year.

“We purchased the press for that part and we have been very pleased with the reliability, speed and accuracy,” Marion Manufacturing President and owner Douglas Johnson said. “We’ve only had one issue with that press in all these years. A technician showed up right away and it’s been running great ever since.”

Located in Cheshire, CT, Marion Manufacturing serves a very diverse customer base, but specializes in high speed, high volume precision stampings. Founded in 1946, Marion has a long history serving the medical, telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, and electronics markets.

The Nidec Press & Automation group of companies, headquartered in Minster, Ohio, includes Minster, Kyori and Arisa presses, along with world class automation and coil line manufacturers Vamco, Automatic Feed, CHS and Linear.

Besides the Kyori ANEX press, Marion has nine other Minster presses on its stamping floor, ranging from 30 to 100 tons.

“We have 17 presses and the Kyori is my favorite,” Douglas Johnson said. “It’s been easy to work with and the Kyori GX gripper feed has been great.”

Running on a five-out progressive die, Marion Manufacturing has produced more than one billion of these copper coaxial cable connector parts on a Nidec Kyori ANEX-30II high speed press.

Due to consumer demand, Marion is phasing out the coaxial part. Plant Manager Tyler Johnson said they are developing a new tool for the Kyori press which has already successfully run at 1,000 strokes per minute.

Tyler Johnson added that Marion Manufacturing not only provides a complete suite of valued added services for its stampings, but also offers complete tool design and building capabilities.

Minster P2 “Piece-Maker” press is one of several Minster presses in production at Marion Manufacturing located in Cheshire, CT.

“Having skilled tool room employees who can maintain tooling and develop new designs using top-of-the-line equipment is invaluable for any manufacturing or production operation,” he said.

Tyler added that the coaxial part running on the Kyori press in an example of how Marion Manufacturing was able to design the tooling for more profitable production, thus saving their customer money.

“Our engineering team can recommend even slight modifications in part detail or configuration that can transform your product from an expensive, difficult-to-produce part to a more efficient and cost-saving alternative,” he said.
